Gyeonggi-do Conducts Operation and Survey of Convenience Facilities for Disabled... Until Next Month 1
Gyeonggi Province is set to inspect the status and operation of convenience facilities for people with disabilities.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will conduct a special audit on the "Installation and Operation Status of Convenience Facilities for People with Disabilities, the Elderly, and Pregnant Women," checking mobility accessibility and living conditions for people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women until the 1st of next month.
The current "Act on Guarantee of Convenience Promotion for People with Disabilities, the Elderly, and Pregnant Women" mandates the installation and operation of convenience facilities for people with disabilities in parks, public buildings, public facilities, and multi-family housing. Public buildings installed by the government and local governments are also required to obtain "Barrier-Free Environment Certification (BF Certification)."
Gyeonggi Province, with the help of the Gyeonggi Province Disabled Convenience Promotion Technology Support Center, will focus on inspecting the installation and operation status of convenience facilities for people with disabilities and the fulfillment of mandatory Barrier-Free Environment Certification (BF Certification) requirements, together with practical field expert citizen auditors specializing in welfare, architecture, and safety.
The audit targets include 2,109 locations where convenience facilities for people with disabilities were installed last year among facilities in 31 cities and counties in the province, and 785 locations that received preliminary living environment certification since July 2015.
Choi Eun-soon, Auditor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this audit, we plan to check whether the convenience and living areas for people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women are being guaranteed in daily life," adding, "We will continue to develop special audit themes for vulnerable groups and do our best to create a safe and convenient Gyeonggi Province for all."
