Gyeongnam Christian Culture Center Announces Four Winners of the 5th Gyeongnam Christian Culture Awards
Four recipients of the 5th Gyeongnam Christian Culture Award, established by the Gyeongnam Christian Culture Foundation, have been selected and announced.
On the 20th, the Gyeongnam Christian Culture Foundation announced the winners of the 5th Christian Culture Award: Pastor Choi Hak-moo (69, Honorary Pastor of Goseong Samsan Church) in the pastoral category, Ms. Won Pil-sook (64, Deaconess of Tongyeong Yeolbang Church) in the culture and arts category, Pastor Kim Jong-sung (69, Director of Changwon Somangwon) in the social service category, and Pastor Lee Hyun-hee (73, Yangsan Sharon Church) in the mission category.
The Gyeongnam Christian Culture Foundation formed a selection committee for the Gyeongnam Christian Culture Award to discover individuals who have made significant achievements and devoted themselves to Christian gospel ministry in four fields throughout the year.
In the pastoral category, Pastor Choi founded Goseong Samsan Church and for 42 years consistently worked alongside rural residents, setting an example in rural ministry that leads rural development. Even after retirement, he dedicated himself as a missionary in Cambodia, serving as a model pastor.
In the culture and arts category, Deaconess Won served as a music teacher and actively participated in church service activities while also dedicating herself to expanding the cultural and artistic base in the Tongyeong area. In particular, she devoted herself as the founder and director of a youth musical for the next generation in the region and consistently engaged in cultural and artistic volunteer work for marginalized groups.
In the social service category, Pastor Kim, who was once a heavy drinker and faced church persecution in his youth, experienced a profound conversion and dedicated his life to caring for severe patients including alcoholics, mentally ill individuals, prisoners, and those with disabilities by establishing Somangwon, a care facility. He also worked laboriously and selflessly to care for the sick and weak. His passion for missions led him to establish numerous churches in remote areas of China and the Philippines.
In the mission category, Pastor Lee established the Yeongnam Canaan Farming School in Miryang in 1988, donating much of his private property. He has established and operated Canaan farming schools for the gospel in 15 locations across 12 countries worldwide. In 2019, he was appointed president of the World Canaan Movement Headquarters.
