Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "We Will Do Our Best to Ensure Residents Have a Safe and Warm Winter"
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that it will implement the '2023 Winter Comprehensive Measures' for four months until March 15 next year to ensure that residents can spend a warm and safe winter.
This plan will be carried out in five areas: cold wave, snow removal, safety, health and environment, and livelihood stabilization. The direction of the plan is set to strengthen special management for vulnerable groups, promote safety management such as snow removal and fire prevention, prevent seasonal infectious diseases, and stabilize prices.
Since the 15th, Mapo-gu has been operating a dedicated cold wave situation management team and has entered full-scale winter countermeasure duty, strengthening the management system according to the cold wave stages to prioritize the safety of residents.
In addition, to proactively respond to sudden heavy snowfall, the CCTV Integrated Control Center and Disaster Safety Situation Room will be operated to minimize traffic inconveniences caused by snow accumulation and freezing. In case of heavy snow, Mapo-gu officials and environmental officers will immediately carry out snow removal work, and through brine spraying devices and snow removal vehicles, they plan to prevent safety accidents such as slipping on icy roads.
Also, to help residents warm up from the cold, 84 heated seats will be newly installed at bus stops in the area, allowing residents using public transportation to warm themselves up even for a short time.
Customized protective measures to prevent cold wave damage to vulnerable groups will also be promoted. An emergency contact network will be established to protect elderly people living alone and persons with disabilities, and for families in crisis, direct visits will be made to check on their well-being and health to help them spend a warm winter. At the same time, 17 senior centers will be designated as cold wave shelters to provide residents with places to escape the cold.
The district will conduct safety inspections of traditional markets, performance halls, cinemas, and other crowded places to prevent fires caused by dry winter weather. Along with this, as the number of foreign tourists visiting tourist spots such as Hongdae Red Road increases, inspections of foreign tourist city lodging businesses will also be strengthened.
Meanwhile, to stabilize prices and the supply of agricultural, livestock, and marine products during winter, Mapo-gu’s price survey personnel have been visiting large supermarkets and traditional markets since the 1st to conduct price surveys on 11 items including cabbage, radish, garlic, and raw oysters. They are also conducting intensive inspections to ensure compliance with trade order, such as the implementation of price labeling, to thoroughly stabilize livelihoods.
