Professor Jeong Gi-young of Seoul National University Elected as Asia Director of the International Restless Legs Syndrome Research Society
Professor Jeong Ki-young of the Department of Neurology at Seoul National University Hospital has been elected as the Asia Director of the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group. His term will be four years, from November to October 2027.
The International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group, established in 1995, is an academic organization that leads the establishment of diagnostic criteria and treatment guidelines for restless legs syndrome, as well as international multicenter research.
Restless legs syndrome is a common chronic neurological sleep disorder affecting about 5% of the population. It causes severe leg discomfort, sleep disturbances, and daytime activity impairment, seriously reducing quality of life.

Professor Jeong Ki-young has received four researcher awards from the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group and is leading restless legs syndrome research in Korea and Asia, conducting pathophysiological studies on restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movements with support from the National Research Foundation of Korea. He is currently preparing to publish a book for patients with restless legs syndrome.
