Mackis Company Operates Popup Store in Seoul... "Starting Capital Region Strategy"
McKiss Company announced on the 20th that it will operate a pop-up store called ‘Plop Sunyang’ in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, until the 9th of next month.
Plop Sunyang was planned with the concept of ‘falling for Sunyang.’ ‘Sunyang (鮮洋)’ is the lowest alcohol content and lowest calorie soju manufactured domestically and is currently sold on the market.
The pop-up store features an ‘Attraction Zone’ where visitors embark on a journey to meet the whale (Sunyang mascot) who has fallen for Sunyang soju, a brand zone exhibiting Sunyang’s history and goods, and ‘Sunyang Odeng Pocha’ where visitors can taste Sunyang soju directly.
Visitors to the pop-up store can board a boat made of crown caps and take photos at photo zones themed around underwater, water surface, and sand island concepts. They can also experience exploring underwater to meet the whale in a space realized through media art.
In particular, the brand zone offers over 30 types of goods emphasizing Sunyang’s mascot, the whale, including household items, stationery, and accessories. McKiss Company introduced that participating in three mini-games?Plop Shot, Plop House, and Plop Spin?where visitors can win goods as prizes, will add to the fun of the place.
Visitors who complete the Plop Sunyang experience will receive a ‘Sunyang Set’ coupon, which can be used at Sunyang Odeng Pocha to enjoy Sunyang soju with warm odeng.
Plop Sunyang operates from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the pop-up period, and advance reservations are possible by searching the keyword ‘Sunyang Pop-up Store’ on the portal site Naver.
McKiss Company’s strategy with operating the pop-up store is to expand contact points with local consumers and target the metropolitan soju market.
Cho Hyun-joon, Head of Future Strategy at McKiss Company, said, “The pop-up store is designed and operated so that visitors can increase their familiarity with Sunyang products (soju). Since we also provide the opportunity to taste Sunyang with warm odeng, we hope many people will visit Plop Sunyang.”
Meanwhile, Sunyang is a zero-sugar soju with the lowest alcohol content (14.9) and lowest calories (298 kcal) in Korea, launched in March this year by McKiss Company to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

Despite significantly reducing calories, this soju enhances the original flavor by adding distilled rice and barley spirits, and its clean taste without aftertaste is a strength. It applies a ‘Crown Cap’ that you open by twisting the cap, making it a fun soju to drink, which has gained popularity mainly among people in their 20s and 30s.
