Suwon City will establish 'Smartphone Usage Restriction School Zones' in nine child protection areas within the city by June next year.
View original imageThe city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is establishing a 'Smartphone Usage Restriction School Zone' in nine elementary school child protection zones within its jurisdiction.
The Smartphone Usage Restriction School Zone project involves installing Bluetooth devices in child protection zones to prevent children from walking while looking at their smartphones.
When a pedestrian safety application is installed on the smartphone, all applications will be disabled while walking within the child protection zone. However, phone calls can still be made.
This project is being promoted after Suwon City's 'IoT (Internet of Things)-based Smartphone Usage Restriction School Zone for Children Walking' was selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Smart City Innovation Technology Discovery Project' competition.
By June next year, the system will be installed in the child protection zones of Cheoncheon, Homaesil, Gosaek, Gokban, Hwahoeng, Maehyeon, Maetan, Hyodong, and Taejang Elementary Schools. The project budget is 410 million KRW, fully funded by the national government.
