Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Actively Striving to Make Clean Restrooms a Universal Human Right"

View original imageLee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon and President of the World Toilet Association (WTA), stated, "Suwon City will diligently strive to establish clean toilets as a universal human right."
On the occasion of World Toilet Day, Mayor Lee posted on his social media on the 19th, explaining, "Suwon City has distributed 'Made in Suwon Toilets' to 26 locations across 10 countries," and added, "By the end of this year, toilets made by Suwon City are scheduled to open in two more countries, including Laos."
Suwon City is establishing ‘Suwon Public Toilets’ in various developing countries. These Suwon Toilets are part of a public toilet installation support project that Suwon City has been promoting since 2014 in developing countries.
Currently, there are 26 Suwon Toilets in 10 countries, including famous tourist sites such as Kuang Si Falls in Luang Prabang, Laos, and the Angkor Wat ruins in Siem Reap, Cambodia, as well as in Laos, Cambodia, Nepal, Vietnam, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Turkey, Myanmar, Mongolia, and Zambia.
Additionally, Suwon City is conducting a project to replace squat toilets with Western-style toilets in schools within the city that have a high installation rate of squat toilets. The plan is to reduce the proportion of squat toilets from 7% in 2024 to 3% by 2026.
Furthermore, to improve public toilets, Suwon City is remodeling aging restrooms and replacing 41 squat toilets with Western-style toilets in 20 out of 32 public restrooms equipped with squat toilets.

Moreover, emergency call bells will be additionally installed in 60 locations in 2024 and 48 locations in 2025. The city also plans to further expand open toilets that provide convenience items such as toilet paper, designated waste bags, and liquid soap in 2024.
