Gwangju Nam-gu to Hold Traditional Kiln Firing Ceremony at Bitgoeul Craft Creation Village on the 21st
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will hold an experiential event at Bitgoeul Craft Creative Village, featuring a traditional kiln firing ceremony where a wood-fired kiln is lit to bake pottery, along with craft-making activities and tasting of local foods baked in the traditional kiln.
According to Nam-gu on the 17th, the "Traditional Kiln Firing Ceremony and Traditional Craft Picnic" event will take place at Bitgoeul Craft Creative Village on the 21st from 1 PM.
This event is organized to promote traditional tourism resources in the district and to facilitate active communication between artists working at Bitgoeul Craft Creative Village and visitors.
About 150 people, including Kim Byeong-nae, the district mayor, members of the Nam-gu Council, resident artists of Bitgoeul Craft Creative Village, and local residents, are expected to attend the traditional kiln firing ceremony demonstration.
On the day, Mayor Kim Byeong-nae, along with Hwang Gyeong-a, Chairperson of the Nam-gu Council, Choi Seok-hyeon, Chairman of the Nam-gu Craft Creative Business Cooperative, and ceramic artist Son Dong-jin, will demonstrate lighting the fire by transferring embers to the wood-fired kiln and then observe the process of baking pottery inside the kiln.
After the traditional kiln firing ceremony demonstration, various experiential programs will be held around the event site and in each workshop.
First, in front of the traditional kiln, a local food tasting program featuring foods baked in the kiln will be conducted. Resident artists in each workshop will offer visitors opportunities to create wind chimes, initial silver rings, silkworm cocoon necklaces, handkerchiefs and neck towels, and to experience kite flying.
