Situation Observed by Pedestrians in Jeju
A group of Chinese nationals who collectively assaulted a fellow compatriot in broad daylight in the middle of the city and attempted to kidnap him were apprehended by the police. All of them were confirmed to be tourists who came to gamble at a casino.
On the 15th, the Jeju Eastern Police Station announced that they have booked and are investigating eight Chinese nationals, including Mr. A, on charges of special robbery. Mr. A and others are suspected of collectively assaulting Mr. B, a Chinese national, near an apartment complex in Ido-dong, Jeju City, around 3:30 PM on the 14th.
CCTV footage capturing the incident shows men getting out of a car and suddenly attacking Mr. B, who was walking on the street. Despite passersby and apartment residents witnessing the assault, they continued the attack without concern. Afterwards, Mr. B was dragged toward a van by the men. They took Mr. B’s bag and belongings and attempted to kidnap him, but fled the scene when Mr. B resisted.

According to the police investigation, they stated, "Mr. B owed about 100 million won in debt at the casino and committed the crime because he did not repay it." Mr. B is also Chinese, and it is known that they first met at a large casino in downtown Jeju.
