Busan Port Authority Breaks Ground on Gamcheon Port Workers' Welfare Support Center
Busan Port Authority (BPA) began construction of the Gamcheon Port Dockworkers Welfare Support Center near the rear gate of the east dock (Dock 2) at Gamcheon Port on the 14th.
The Gamcheon Port Dockworkers Welfare Support Center will be built on the same site by demolishing the existing 3-story building of the Dockworkers Union Gamcheon Branch (total floor area 987㎡) and constructing a 7-story building with a total floor area of 1713㎡. The total project cost is approximately 7.8 billion KRW, with completion scheduled for December 2024.
The existing building had a cramped waiting room for workers and lacked spatial separation, making it vulnerable to mass infections during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it also lacked sufficient convenience facilities.
BPA plans to equip the new welfare support center with various convenience facilities such as a significantly larger waiting room for workers, an education room, a cafeteria, a nap room, and a parking lot to improve working conditions for port workers.
The education room and waiting area can be flexibly utilized according to their purpose, allowing efficient use of the facilities based on the needs of port workers.
