Honam University e-Sports Industry Department, "A Cradle for Training e-Sports Practical Experts"
The Department of eSports Industry at Honam University is establishing itself as a cradle for training practical eSports experts by consistently conducting expert training programs alongside the successful hosting of various local tournaments.
Honam University announced on the 15th that the Department of eSports Industry, together with the Global K-CON Management major, successfully held the '31st Division Military Personnel PUBG Mobile Tournament' on the afternoon of November 14 at the special stage in Honam University IT-Square.
The finals, held in an excited atmosphere with cheers and encouragement from fellow soldiers in attendance, featured 16 teams and 64 participants who advanced through the online qualifiers held from October 31. The championship was claimed by the team 'Baekbalbaekjung'.
This tournament was organized by the Department of eSports Industry at Honam University, which formed study groups in various fields such as stage setup, commentary, and game production from the planning stage, preparing since the summer vacation to deliver a highly polished event.
Broadcast live through the official PUBG Mobile channel, the tournament was commentated by caster Park Han-eol and analysts Kim Dong-yeon and Oh Seung-joo (1st year). Famous PUBG Mobile pro players Lee Jung-seok (2nd year, stage name NOVA) and Jeon Dong-wook (1st year, stage name DANXY) participated in observing, creating a vivid live broadcast experience.
From October 21 to 22, the Department linked students’ learning activities to on-site practical work through commentary and event management at the 'BIAF 2023 (Bucheon International Animation Festival) eSports Tournament' and the eSports exchange match held on the 21st as part of the '2023 Gwangju-Daegu Youth Moonlight Exchange' program.
In early October, the department planned the Honam University Eodeung Festival commemorative eSports tournament as a major-linked extracurricular program, maximizing practical skills by handling promotion, poster production, creating a broadcast interface reflecting the characteristics of the game, and live streaming on the YouTube channel.
Additionally, the eSports pro team 'Eagle Owls (EOS)' PUBG Mobile team participated and performed well in the Korea-India Invitational Friendly Exchange held from October 26 to 28 at Pragati Maidan in Delhi, India.
Since its establishment in 2020 as the first four-year university program nationwide, the Department of eSports Industry at Honam University was selected in 2023 for the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) eSports Workforce Development Project. Through programs that enhance learning capabilities, operate related certification programs, and foster industry-academia cooperation, the department is cultivating practical experts tailored to employment demand by providing hands-on field experience.
