The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service held the '2023 Workplace Daycare THE-Jaram Childcare Contest Awards Ceremony' at 3 p.m. on the 14th at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center.

Since its inception in 2009, the childcare contest, now in its 15th edition this year, was established to discover and disseminate excellent childcare programs directly experienced and developed by daycare teachers and infants at workplace daycare centers, aiming to improve the quality of childcare services.

This year, the contest called for entries in three categories?childcare programs, spatial environment design, and excellent operation cases?under the theme of "ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) suitable for infant development."

Before the application process, a seminar was held for workplace daycare centers wishing to participate in the childcare contest to help them understand ESD and to share the importance and application cases of ESD in early childhood.

A total of 184 centers participated in the contest held from May to August, and after expert evaluations (first and second rounds) and public voting, 34 centers were finally selected.

The grand prizes (Minister of Employment and Labor Award) were awarded to Jaram Daycare Center (KG Mobility Co., Ltd.) in the childcare program category, LG Energy Solution (Kids & SOL Daycare Center) in the spatial environment design category, and HD Hyundai Co., Ltd. in the excellent operation case category.

Jaram Daycare Center is a joint workplace daycare center operated by small and medium-sized enterprises and large corporations. Despite difficulties in operating daycare centers due to social issues such as low birth rates, it was evaluated to have achieved good results through innovative and sincere program development.

Lee Jung-sik, Minister of Employment and Labor, emphasized, "Workplace daycare centers are the most trusted and highly satisfactory daycare centers for working parents, significantly contributing to women's economic participation and addressing low birth rates."

He added, "I hope the excellent cases selected in this childcare contest will spread and help improve workplace childcare services, and furthermore, the government will not spare policy support and backing to help workplace daycare centers develop even further."
