Busan Port New Port Workers Surpass 2 Million Users of Free Commute Shuttle Bus
BPA Conducts Operation Improvement Survey Until the 17th to Prepare for Increased Demand
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) announced that the number of users of the free shuttle bus operated for workers commuting to and from Busan New Port exceeded 2 million as of October 31, 2023.
The New Port shuttle bus operates two routes from Hadan Station of Busan Metro and Gangseo-gu Office to the New Port.
Busan New Port is located more than 30 km away from downtown Busan, and due to the lack of public transportation, workers commuting to container terminals and hinterland complexes face many difficulties.
Since 2011, BPA has been operating the free shuttle bus by sharing costs with Busan City, terminal operators, and companies located in the hinterland complexes to improve commuting conditions and alleviate workers' inconveniences. This case has been praised as a model of collaborative administration among BPA, related organizations, and private companies.
In response to environmental changes at the New Port, BPA continuously improves the routes considering the convenience of shuttle bus users. This year, a stop was installed at the newly opened New Port Pier 6 (Busan Container Terminal), and two additional stops were added in the Buk‘Con’ and Ungdong hinterland complexes to accommodate workers' convenience.
BPA is conducting a survey for users until November 17 to gather opinions on the current routes and prepare for future increases in shuttle bus demand.
You can participate in the survey by accessing the QR code registered in the popup window on the Busan Port Authority website.
BPA currently has about 200,000 shuttle bus users annually, and it is expected that the number of users will increase further once the West Container Terminal officially opens and logistics companies move into the West‘Con’ and South‘Con’ hinterland complexes.
