Language test scores including TOEIC can now be used for up to 5 years in national professional qualification exams
Recommendations for Institutional Improvements by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission
From now on, the validity period for recognizing TOEIC, TOEFL, TEPS, and other public language test scores in national professional qualification exams will be extended from the existing 2 years to 5 years.
On the 14th, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced that it recommended this improvement plan, titled "Extension of the Validity Period for Recognizing Official Language Test Scores in National Qualification Exams," to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, which oversee national professional qualifications.
Currently, the organizations administering foreign language tests such as TOEIC recognize test scores for only 2 years. As a result, in 15 national professional qualification exams requiring foreign language test scores, including tax accountant, patent attorney, and certified labor consultant exams, examinees have had to retake language tests every 2 years to update their scores.
According to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s recommendation, from now on, once a language test is taken, if the score is registered in advance through the test administering institution’s pre-registration system before the expiration of the validity period, the language test score can be recognized for up to 5 years.
