Incheon City Provides Denture Support up to 210,000 KRW for Medical Beneficiaries Aged 65 and Over
Incheon City announced on the 13th that it is promoting a denture support project to improve the oral health of low-income elderly citizens.
The city has been supporting the out-of-pocket expenses incurred for denture (complete, partial) procedures since 2019 for medical aid recipients aged 65 and older who have difficulty consuming food due to missing teeth. So far this year, 977 people have benefited from this support.
Medical aid type 1 recipients can receive approximately 70,000 KRW per person, and type 2 recipients can receive approximately 210,000 KRW per person as out-of-pocket support.
Medical aid recipients who have undergone denture procedures must submit related documents such as procedure receipts to the relevant department (welfare sector and public health center) within 12 months. If they meet the eligibility criteria, they can be reimbursed for their out-of-pocket expenses.
An official from Incheon City stated, "Tooth loss can cause unbalanced nutrition intake, which may negatively affect the overall quality of life of elderly citizens," and added, "We will actively promote the denture support project to improve the oral health of low-income elderly citizens."
Meanwhile, according to the 2022 Community Health Survey conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 32.3% of elderly citizens aged 65 and older in the Incheon area reported difficulties with mastication (chewing food thoroughly). This rate is higher than the national average of 31.5%.
