Pilgrimage to the National Museum with Professor Yu Hong-jun, Author of 'My Cultural Heritage Exploration'
Nowon-gu, December 1, 2023, 3 PM, Last Immortal Lecture of the Year at Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall: Art Critic Professor Yu Hong-jun's Lecture on "The Identity of Korean Art: A Pilgrimage to the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History"
Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the last 'Immortal Lectures' of 2023 on December 1st.
'Immortal Lectures' is the district's representative lifelong education program that invites prominent figures from various fields such as humanities, health, science, and popular culture to discuss contemporary issues and personal life stories. Since its inception in 2019, notable guests have included actor Lee Soon-jae, physicist Kim Sang-wook, writer Jo Jung-rae, and profiler Pyo Chang-won.
The 4th Immortal Lecture of 2023, held at 3 p.m. at the Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall, will feature art critic Professor Yoo Hong-jun as the speaker under the theme "The Identity of Korean Art: A Pilgrimage to the National Museum of Korea."
Professor Yoo is well-known as the author of the 'My Cultural Heritage Exploration' series. He served as the 3rd Commissioner of the Cultural Heritage Administration and currently holds the positions of Chairman of the Academy of Korean Studies and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Art History at Myongji University.
In this lecture, Professor Yoo will emphasize that in a situation where our cultural identity is being questioned due to excessive historical distortions such as the Northeast Project, a nation's cultural identity is not determined solely by its origins but develops through the active choices of its recipients. By introducing cultural heritage, this will be a time for residents to feel pride in Korean culture and its roots.
Those who wish to explore Korea's unique beauty together with the lecturer must register in advance (500 people) via the district office website starting from the 13th of this month or register on-site on the day of the lecture (100 people). The lecture is free of charge with open seating. It will also be broadcast live through the district's official YouTube channel, 'Nowon-gu Office Mihongssi.'
This year, the district planned a total of four Immortal Lectures, inviting ▲1st session: Choi Tae-sung (Korean history instructor) ▲2nd session: Pyo Chang-won (profiler) ▲3rd session: Jang Dong-sun (neuroscientist) ▲4th session: Yoo Hong-jun (art critic). On average, over 600 residents participated in each session, with most expressing satisfaction with the informative and high-quality lectures and looking forward to next year's Immortal Lectures.
