Goheung-gun Secures 10 Billion Won for Eco-Friendly Aquaculture Project

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it has secured 10 billion KRW after being selected for the 2024 Eco-friendly Aquaculture Promotion Project, a contest organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, under the Aquaculture Technology Infrastructure Support Project.

The selected eco-friendly aquaculture promotion project will invest a total of 10 billion KRW over two years until 2025 to build research facilities related to the production of high-quality seeds, research, and start-up fishery education for eco-friendly shrimp aquaculture on a 130,000㎡ site in Yongdong-ri, Dodeok-myeon, Goheung-gun.

Through this contest project, Goheung-gun plans to establish a stable management system for shrimp seeds and a seed research system, create synergy effects in the smart aquaculture complex, and encourage young fishermen to settle in the region. It is expected to greatly contribute to responding to population decline and revitalizing the local economy.

Furthermore, due to recent environmental deterioration of shrimp farms caused by climate change such as high water temperatures, fishermen are facing difficulties. This project is expected to play a significant role in ensuring stable aquaculture management, improving aquaculture environments, and promoting eco-friendly aquaculture.

An official from the county stated, “Through continuous promotion of eco-friendly aquaculture, we will not only supply safer seafood products but also create new income sources and lay the foundation for sustainable aquaculture development.”
