View original imageGyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon attracted attention on the 9th by posting a map of the Korean Peninsula on his social media service (SNS) that depicts Seoul as an island.
The map posted by Governor Kim shows the southern part of the Korean Peninsula (below the armistice line) submerged underwater except for Seoul, leaving Seoul alone as an isolated island.
Along with the photo, Governor Kim wrote, "Sometimes a single photo or a map speaks louder than a hundred words."
The title at the top right of the map reads "New Map of the Republic of Korea," and below it is the phrase, "Only Seoul in the Republic of Korea? Regional development is needed to create a greater Korea."
Governor Kim has been strongly criticizing the push to incorporate Gimpo City into Seoul at every opportunity, starting with a press briefing with accompanying reporters during his business trip to China on the 1st, followed by press conferences, the 2024 Gyeonggi Province main budget briefing, and provincial council questions.
In particular, ahead of next year’s general election, Governor Kim continues to claim that the expansion of Seoul is a political show aimed at killing local regions to gain votes in the Gimpo area.
