Kia Gwangju Plant Halts Operations Due to Safety Accident at Partner Company
The Kia Autoland Gwangju plant has halted operations due to a safety accident at a partner company.
On the 8th, Kia announced that operations at Gwangju Plants 1, 2, and 3 were suspended after 6:40 PM on the 7th. However, the bus and military plants continue to operate normally.
Production was stopped as supply was disrupted following a safety accident at a partner company that supplies body parts the previous day. This is the first time the Kia Gwangju plant has stopped due to a safety accident at a partner company.
On the morning of the previous day, a worker in his 40s at a partner company producing Kia body parts was fatally struck by a forklift. Following the accident, the company was ordered to halt operations.
Kia stated that after completing an investigation into the cause of the accident and resuming parts supply, the plant will restart operations. The plant produces about 2,000 vehicles daily, including the Sportage, Soul, Seltos, and Bongo.

The revenue affected by the production halt amounts to approximately 12.686 trillion KRW, which is about 14% of Kia's sales last year.
