The 9th Korea Nuclear Industry Expo is a representative event in the nuclear industry sector. It had been held in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, where nuclear power plants are located, since 2015. However, this year, in line with the current government’s national agenda (abolishing the nuclear phase-out policy and strengthening the nuclear industry ecosystem), it was held in Changwon Special City, where core nuclear industry manufacturing companies are concentrated.
This expo consists of ▲nuclear company and research institute exhibitions ▲special seminars ▲integrated briefing sessions on nuclear power company support projects ▲and recruitment briefings. It featured participation from Korea’s leading nuclear companies such as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Enerbility, as well as nuclear research institutes, associations, and key nuclear power companies nationwide.
At the opening ceremony held on the 8th, an expert seminar titled ‘Measures to Revitalize the Korean Nuclear Ecosystem and the Future Direction of the Nuclear Sector’ was held simultaneously, where in-depth discussions on the current status and development direction of Korea’s nuclear industry took place.
The session was chaired by Dong-seok Noh, Director of the Nuclear Power Communication Support Center at the Energy Information Culture Foundation. Panelists included Baek-sik Noh, Vice Chairman of the Korea Nuclear Industry Association; Ki-bok Lee, Senior Vice Chairman of the Korean Nuclear Society; Jong-ho Lee, former Executive Director of KHNP; and Won-soo Jung, Director of KHNP, who engaged in a high-level discussion.
In the afternoon, Gyeongnam Technopark hosted the ‘2024 Integrated Briefing Session on Nuclear Power Company Support Projects,’ providing comprehensive information on government, related agencies, and local government support projects to attending nuclear company representatives.
The Gyeongnam Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration, Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Doosan Enerbility, Korea Nuclear Industry Association, Korea Nuclear Export Association, and Gyeongnam Technopark introduced their respective support projects for nuclear companies for the coming year. Many local nuclear companies participated, showing strong interest.
On the 9th, the Korea Nuclear Decommissioning Industry Association will host the ‘Nuclear Power Decommissioning Industry Win-Win Cooperation Forum,’ where topics related to issues in the nuclear decommissioning sector will be presented.
Additionally, at the ‘Nuclear Company Recruitment Briefing,’ leading domestic nuclear companies such as KHNP, Korea Electric Power Technology, KEPCO KPS, KEPCO Nuclear Fuel, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Korea Institute of Materials Science, Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, Doosan Enerbility, Korea EGS, and Konasol will directly explain recruitment plans and application requirements to local university students and job seekers from institutions such as Changwon National University and Gyeongnam National University.
