Gwangmyeong 'Temporary Mobile Workers' Shelter' Opens on the 10th
A temporary rest shelter for mobile workers will open in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that it will open the Gwangmyeong Temporary Mobile Workers' Rest Shelter on the 10th to protect the right of mobile workers to rest.
Mobile workers are those who work for platforms such as delivery or courier drivers and private tutors. Due to the nature of their frequent mobility, their rest times are irregular, and there are no designated rest areas, making the establishment of rest shelters necessary.
This year, Gyeonggi Province is adding temporary mobile workers' rest shelters in eight areas including Yongin, Seongnam, Ansan, Namyangju, Paju, Icheon, Guri, and Gwangmyeong. Among these, after the shelters were established in Paju and Guri in May and October respectively, the Gwangmyeong shelter will be the third to open this year.
The Gwangmyeong Temporary Mobile Workers' Rest Shelter will be installed as a 27㎡ container booth near Gwangmyeong Station in the Muigong Food Culture Street.
The interior of the shelter will be equipped with air conditioning and heating, Wi-Fi, hot and cold water dispensers, mobile phone chargers, a TV, chairs, tables, sofas, an air purifier, a coffee vending machine, and books. It will operate 24 hours a day year-round with an unmanned security system, and access will be available anytime using a personal QR code.
Gyeonggi Province plans to complete the installation of shelters in five more locations within the year, selecting places such as station plazas and public parking lots that are easily accessible and convenient for parking for mobile workers.
Gyeonggi Province operates the largest number of mobile workers' rest shelters nationwide, with a total of 14 locations (10 main centers and 4 temporary shelters), and plans to increase the number of temporary mobile workers' rest shelters from 8 this year to 20 by 2026.
