Death at Age 68 While Battling Stroke...
Charlie Park (real name Park Young-chul), singer and father of Shinhwa member Jun Jin, passed away on the 6th at the age of 68.
Charlie Park entered the popular music scene in 1979 by playing the saxophone on stage for the US 8th Army.
He had a son, Jun Jin, after marriage but later divorced, and went through two more marriages and divorces afterward.
In 2004, Charlie Park officially debuted as a singer with the passionate Latin rhythm song "Casanova Sarang" (Casanova Love). He continued his career by releasing songs such as "Beoryeobeoryeo" (Throw It Away), "Jinjjaru" (Really), and "Namja-ui Nunmul" (A Man's Tears). Among his released songs, he wrote the lyrics for "Jinjjaru" and "Nae Meotdaero Saneun Insaeng" (Living Life My Way), establishing himself as a lyricist as well.
In 2007, Charlie Park challenged acting by appearing in the KBS 2TV drama "Saranghaedo Gwaenchanha" (It's Okay to Love). He also performed in musicals such as "Sarang-eul Iru-eo Deurimnida" (We Make Your Love Come True).
A few years ago, he appeared on a cable TV program and revealed that he was suffering from left hemiplegia and speech impairment due to a stroke. At that time, he drew sympathy as he was shown living alone in a semi-basement room while battling illness.
In that broadcast, he disclosed that he no longer had contact with his son. It is known that Jun Jin provided him with significant financial support due to business failures and other issues. Charlie Park said, "It is my fault, and I have no resentment toward my son. My son gave me a lot of financial support and investments. I always feel sorry because of that."
