New York City Has No Official Statement Yet
Recently, green fluorescent liquid has been leaking from some manholes in New York, USA, causing growing concern among residents.
According to ABC7 Chicago and others on the 6th (local time), green fluorescent liquid leaked near a manhole close to the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York, on the 31st of last month.
Dan Pantello, a citizen who saw the liquid firsthand, posted related photos on his X (formerly Twitter) account, saying, "Green liquid is literally gushing out of the ground next to the World Trade Center right now." He expressed concern, asking, "Can someone explain this situation?" and "Are we living in Gotham City?" The post attracted attention with over 25 million views and more than 8,000 shares.
Photos released by Dan show an unidentified green fluorescent liquid flowing near the manhole. A greenish puddle had also formed by the roadside.
As the post gained traction, netizens began speculating. In particular, some added background information to Dan's post, stating, "It is water filled with green dye. Plumbers often use harmless fluorescent green dye to detect leaks in plumbing and water systems." This means that green dye was used to detect leaks in the plumbing system.
However, New York City has not yet issued an official statement regarding the identity of the green liquid.
This is not the first time green liquid has been spotted in New York. In March, green substance was found at a subway station in Brooklyn, which was also identified as leakage during an inspection of the underground water system.
