Goseong-gun, "We Will Ensure No Wildfires Occur This Year"
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has designated the period from November 1 to May 15 of the following year, a total of seven months, as the wildfire caution period and established the "2023 Late Autumn and 2024 Early Spring Wildfire Prevention Measures."
Accordingly, under the wildfire prevention measures, a Wildfire Prevention Headquarters has been set up at the county office and 14 eup/myeon offices, and emergency duty has commenced to fully focus on wildfire prevention activities and initial firefighting response.
The Wildfire Prevention Headquarters will carry out tasks including ▲securing and inspecting wildfire prevention and firefighting equipment ▲maintaining the command system for on-site wildfire suppression ▲strengthening cooperation systems with related organizations such as fire departments, police, and eup/myeon offices ▲concentrated deployment of specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams and wildfire watchers in vulnerable areas ▲operation and maintenance of the situation room ▲setting up entry restrictions and prohibiting possession of fire-related items ▲conducting wildfire prevention publicity and guidance activities along patrol routes in vulnerable areas.
In particular, during this wildfire caution period, the county will deploy 32 specialized wildfire prevention and suppression personnel and 101 wildfire watchers to focus on wildfire prevention and response. In case of wildfire occurrence, firefighting personnel and equipment will be promptly dispatched to ensure thorough initial response.
Additionally, to prevent wildfires caused by burning, the county will continuously collect agricultural byproducts such as chili stalks from small-scale farms within 100 meters of forest-adjacent areas to eliminate wildfire causes.
Those who wish to have agricultural byproducts collected can apply at their respective eup/myeon offices.
Lee Yeon-ok, Director of the Greenery and Parks Division, stated, “Our county has 66% of its area covered by forests, with over 58% consisting of coniferous trees, which are vulnerable to wildfires. Therefore, during dry weather, the likelihood of wildfires may increase. We will operate the Wildfire Prevention Headquarters to thoroughly prepare for wildfire response and do our best to protect the county’s valuable forest resources.”
