Successful Completion of the 2023 Fall Academic Conference Hosted by UNIST and the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers
The ‘2023 Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers (KIIE) Fall Conference,’ jointly hosted by the Department of Industrial Engineering at UNIST and the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers, was held over two days on the 2nd and 3rd at the UNIST campus in Ulsan.
Under the theme “Industrial Engineering: Data Science, Operations Research, and Industrial Artificial Intelligence Innovating Industry,” the conference was attended by more than 600 experts from industry, academia, and research sectors, and was sponsored by major domestic and international corporations, mid-sized companies, and startups such as LG Electronics, SK Innovation, and Tyroscope.
In his opening remarks, KIIE President Kim Kwangjae said, “In this era of digital transformation, we have prepared a platform to share achievements in data science and industrial artificial intelligence,” adding, “We hope this exchange will inspire creative research ideas.”
The conference featured academic presentations and special corporate sessions covering the latest research and development cases related to data science, operations research theory, data learning in industrial sites, system operation optimization, and various other data-driven decision-making optimizations.
More than 200 research outcomes were presented across over 40 academic presentation sessions in fields such as optimization, production and logistics, the Fourth Industrial Revolution and industrial artificial intelligence, probability, statistics, quality control, public and industrial applications, and business analytics.
In the special corporate sessions, cases of industrial artificial intelligence development in manufacturing, healthcare, home appliances, and energy industries were introduced. Detailed session lists and more can be found in the conference’s electronic brochure.
Participants of the academic conference are listening to the keynote speech by Professor Jianjun Shi of Georgia Institute of Technology, USA.
