BTS Jungkook's solo album 'GOLDEN' sold over 2 million copies within 5 hours of its release.
According to Big Hit Music on the 4th, the album's sales on the domestic album sales tracking site Hanteo Chart surpassed 1 million copies within 3 hours and 2 million copies within 5 hours of release. The total sales for the day reached 2,147,389 copies.
GOLDEN is an album inspired by Jungkook's 'golden moment,' featuring a total of 11 tracks including the title song.
Big Hit Music stated, "This is the first time in history that a K-pop solo artist's album has sold over 2 million copies on the first day of release," adding, "The sales on the release day alone surpassed the previous record for the highest first-week sales by a K-pop solo artist."
As of 9 a.m. that day, GOLDEN topped the iTunes Top Albums charts in 77 countries and regions, including the UK, Germany, and France. The title track "Standing Next to You" ranked number one on the iTunes Top Songs charts in 71 countries and regions, including Greece, Poland, and Qatar.
Additionally, Jungkook swept the top positions on both the 'Worldwide iTunes' and 'European iTunes' song and album charts.
