40s Sentenced to Probation for Kicking Police Officer Who Picked Up Glasses
A man in his 40s who repeatedly kicked a police officer's shoulder and head after the officer picked up his dropped glasses was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
According to the legal community on the 4th, Judge Lee Chang-won of the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced Mr. A (47), who was charged with special assault and obstruction of official duties, to six months in prison with a two-year suspension on September 21. The court explained the sentencing by stating, "There is no prior record of fines more than once, and he made a criminal deposit of 500,000 won for the victim."

Mr. A was arrested on the spot on suspicion of assaulting a police officer who responded to a fight he was involved in with his group at a karaoke bar in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, around 12:40 a.m. on April 24. During the process of getting into the patrol car, he dropped his glasses on the floor of the patrol car. When the victim bent down to pick them up, Mr. A, while seated, kicked the victim's shoulder and head several times with his feet and struck the back of the victim's neck with both hands.
