On the 2nd (local time), near the Rafah border checkpoint in the Egyptian city of El Arish, Suher told major foreign media in an interview, "The situation in the Gaza Strip is really difficult and very bad."
Holding dual citizenship of Korea and Palestine, she recalled, "We lived in Gaza City but were forced to move south to Khan Yunis," adding, "Bombings were ongoing everywhere in the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip."
Suher said, "Fortunately, we left Gaza, but other family members and relatives remain there," and appealed, "Since the situation is still ongoing, I ask everyone to continue paying attention and spreading awareness."
Suher is the eldest daughter of her Korean mother, Ms. Choi (44), and her Palestinian father (43), who naturalized as a Korean citizen.
On the 26th day of the war between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas, she fled to Egypt through the Rafah checkpoint with her parents, younger brother (15), and her youngest sister, who was born in March and is 7 months old.
Suher’s family attempted to cross the border four times but failed, finally managing to cross the day before.
With the help of the Korean embassy, the family moved to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, and is expected to decide their next steps soon.
