Korea National Oil Corporation Participates in the 'Autumn Resources Union Academic Conference'
Announcement of Research Achievements in Oil and Gas Development Technologies
Korea National Oil Corporation participated in the ‘2023 Fall Resources Joint Academic Conference’ to share research achievements such as oil and gas development technologies and the utilization of machine learning.
The ‘2023 Fall Resources Joint Academic Conference’ was jointly hosted by the Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers, the Korean Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the Korean Society of Geophysics and Physical Exploration, and the Korean Society of Petroleum Engineers. It was held from the 2nd to the 3rd at the Alpensia Resort in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do.
This academic conference was sponsored by 26 member companies from industry, academia, and research institutes, and about 25 domestic and international universities participated. The conference was held under the theme of ‘Securing Critical Minerals and Preparing for the Hydrogen Era,’ featuring 201 presentations and discussions on topics such as energy resources, securing critical minerals, and low-carbon energy transition.
Experts from Korea National Oil Corporation in various fields of oil, including reservoirs, production, and drilling, presented know-how and case analyses related to oil and gas development and production.
In particular, the corporation introduced cases where the operation design of overseas gas fields it owns was optimized to improve operational efficiency and ensure safety, as well as research on ways to increase exploration success rates using seismic data obtained through machine learning.

View original imageThe corporation also set up a promotional booth to inform about the progress of its ongoing internal research projects such as natural hydrogen, CO2 mineralization, and PINN, as well as the disclosure system for oil development technology data.
At this academic conference, Im Geon-muk, Head of the Exploration and Production Division at Korea National Oil Corporation, received the ‘2023 Korean Society of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineers Merit Award’ in recognition of his contributions to the success of domestic and international oil development projects over the past 30 years and to the training of technical personnel and enhancement of technical skills in the field of resource engineering.
