Ottogi's 'Cup Noodle Malatang' Surpasses 1 Million Units Sold in 3 Weeks
Ottogi announced on the 3rd that the sales of 'Cup Noodle Malatang,' launched last month, surpassed 1 million units within just three weeks of its release.
'Cup Noodle Malatang' is a product that combines the popular spicy Chinese hot pot dish Malatang, favored among young consumers, with cup noodles. It was launched to meet consumer demand for enjoying the high-calorie Malatang without guilt. Boasting a low calorie count of 150kcal, it gained popularity through word of mouth from the early stages without any separate advertising. The company explained that the product received positive reviews from consumers for capturing the unique spicy and numbing flavor of Malatang well.
The product features a rich broth based on beef bone soup, enhanced with numbing Malatang spices, savory peanuts, and sesame seeds. It replicates a spiciness level equivalent to about 1.5 steps of a Malatang specialty restaurant. Instead of flour like traditional cup noodles, it uses glass noodles made from potato and mung bean starch. Additionally, it is the first Cup Noodle to include dried tofu skin pieces, improving its completeness.
