70-Year-Old Man Detained for Weapon Rampage in Front of Presidential Office Under Custody Review: "Complained About Elderly Pension"
A man in his 70s who injured two police officers by wielding a weapon in front of the main gate of the Yongsan Presidential Office is now facing detention.
On the afternoon of the 31st of last month, Park Mo, who wielded a weapon at two police officers on external duty at the Presidential Office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was arrested by the police and is being transported.

On the 2nd, the Seoul Western District Court announced that it would conduct a pre-trial detention hearing (warrant review) for the man in his 70s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of special obstruction of official duties causing injury, at 10:30 a.m. that day.
Mr. A appeared at the Seoul Western District Court at 9:57 a.m. handcuffed and responded "Yes" when reporters asked if he committed the crime because his old-age pension was not being paid. He also said, "I intended to go into the Presidential Office to complain about not being able to receive my old-age pension."

Mr. A is accused of wielding a weapon and injuring two police officers in front of the main gate of the Presidential Office at around 1:20 p.m. on the 31st of last month. Two police officers from the 202 Security Unit, responsible for outer perimeter security of the Presidential Office, were injured?one in the arm and the other in the abdomen?while subduing Mr. A and were transported to the hospital. It has been reported that neither of their lives are in danger.
