The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gyeongnam, in collaboration with the Bank of Korea Gyeongnam Headquarters, held the 25th Changwon Economic Research Forum on the 1st at 2 PM in the 3rd-floor auditorium of the Bank of Korea Gyeongnam Headquarters under the theme "Gyeongnam Aerospace Industry, to the World! To Space!".
The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly held the 25th Changwon Economic Research Forum with the Bank of Korea Gyeongnam Headquarters.
View original imageThis forum was organized to explore the direction that South Korea's aerospace industry, which has risen to become one of the world's top seven space powers, should take and to understand the role of our region in the process of implementing this. About 80 participants attended, including local businesspeople, local governments, corporate support organizations, and university officials.
The first keynote speaker, Professor Heo Seon-young of Gyeongsang National University, presented on the topic "Future Development Strategy of the Aerospace Industry in the Gyeongnam Region."
Based on research results that multilayeredly empirically analyzed the spatial characteristics at the regional level and the degree of linkage among numerous aerospace companies distributed in the Gyeongnam region, Professor Heo stated, "For the development of the aerospace industry in the Gyeongnam region, it is necessary to establish a roadmap to secure technological competitiveness in the aerospace industry and to formulate phased strategies linked to industrial growth."
The second presentation was given by Research Fellow Ahn Hyung-joon of the Science and Technology Policy Institute on the topic "Tasks for the Sustainable Growth of South Korea's Aerospace Industry." He emphasized that to elevate the space industry to a national key industry, it is essential to ▲ secure self-sustainability through government space development project method transformation and cluster infrastructure expansion ▲ expand future markets through convergence and commercialization of advanced technologies with strengths ▲ establish a foundation for workforce development and international cooperation to enter and secure market share in the global market.
After the presentations, Kim Jin-geun, Director of Research Planning and Coordination at the Gyeongnam Research Institute, chaired an expert discussion.
In his greeting, Koo Ja-cheon, Chairman of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "Gyeongnam, where system companies and related companies in the aerospace field are concentrated, should lead South Korea's new space era. Recently, related legislation has been prepared, raising great expectations," and added, "We will unite regional efforts to ensure the prompt establishment of the Sacheon Aerospace Agency."

Kim Jeong-hoon, Head of the Bank of Korea Gyeongnam Headquarters, stated, "Regarding the aerospace industry, the legislation of a special law for the establishment of the Aerospace Agency is currently the biggest issue in the Gyeongnam region," and added, "Having been the center of heavy and chemical manufacturing industries such as shipbuilding and machinery for over 50 years, Gyeongnam now faces a golden opportunity to take a leap forward by adopting a new growth engine called aerospace."
