Changwon Wonidae-ro S-BRT Construction Begins in Earnest... Partial Lane Closures on Lanes 1 and 2 Starting This Month
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 1st that with the full-scale commencement of the ‘Changwon Wonidae-ro S-BRT Installation Construction,’ lanes 1 and 2 will be partially controlled from November for the construction of central bus stops and separated green medians.
Je Jong-nam, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, is giving a briefing related to the Woni-daero construction.
View original imageThe ‘Wonidae-ro S-BRT Installation Construction’ actually began in April this year, during which all trees on the central divider and bicycle lane separators were transplanted, and ground compaction work along with crosswalk and traffic signal relocation work are currently underway.
From November, construction of bus stops in the center of the road and green medians separating the BRT lane from general traffic lanes will be implemented, making it inevitable to control 1 to 2 lanes. In preparation for this lane control, the city expanded the one-way 3 lanes to 4 lanes by utilizing bicycle lane space and prioritized construction to minimize traffic impact, including the addition of right-turn lanes.
As lane control due to BRT construction intensifies, work will be carried out from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., avoiding peak commuting hours except in special cases.
Accordingly, the city provides daily construction sections and lane control plans to drivers in advance through ‘TBN Gyeongnam Traffic Broadcasting’ to inform them about the construction.
Additionally, the city will notify the progress of the construction through banners, road electronic signboards (VMS), the official Changwon city website, and SNS to minimize inconvenience to citizens during the construction.
The Wonidae-ro S-BRT installation construction is scheduled for completion in March next year. However, due to frequent rainfall and a prolonged rainy season between April and September, construction requiring traffic control was delayed, so the schedule was adjusted to open in March next year without a temporary opening in December this year.
