Scheduled to Attend the International Ransomware Response Meeting
In Seong-hwan, the Second Deputy Director of the National Security Office, will attend the trilateral security deputy directors' meeting of South Korea, the United States, and Japan, as well as the Counter Ransomware Initiative (CRI) meeting held in the United States.
The National Security Office announced on the 1st that Deputy Director In will visit Washington D.C., USA, from the 29th of last month to the 3rd of this month for a 4-night, 6-day schedule to carry out these engagements.
During this visit to the United States, arranged at the invitation of the U.S. National Security Council (NSC) at the White House, Deputy Director In will attend the trilateral meeting of South Korea, the United States, and Japan, the CRI meeting, and hold talks with key figures from the U.S., Japan, Australia, and others. The CRI is an international consultative body established by the United States in 2021 to respond to global ransomware threats, with participation from over 50 countries.
At the trilateral meeting, Deputy Director In, Anne Neuberger, U.S. NSC Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology, and Keiichi Ichikawa, Deputy Director of Japan’s National Security Secretariat, will attend as chief representatives, and they plan to discuss in detail the establishment of a trilateral working group following the Camp David agreement made last August.
Previously, President Yoon Seok-yeol, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced at Camp David, the U.S. president’s retreat, the creation of a trilateral working group to respond to North Korea’s cyber threats and virtual asset theft.
Additionally, at the CRI meeting, Deputy Director In is expected to express concerns about the international security situation threatened by ransomware and affirm South Korea’s commitment to joint responses in solidarity with the international community.

The National Security Office stated, "We are striving to successfully implement the Camp David agreement among the leaders of South Korea, the United States, and Japan, and through this visit to the United States, we hope to deepen trilateral cybersecurity cooperation and strengthen collaboration with the international community against global threats such as ransomware."
