Professor Seokyungdeok from Sungshin Women's University mentioned that the recent drug use allegations involving actor Lee Seon-gyun (48) and singer G-Dragon (35, real name Kwon Ji-yong) have damaged the image of K-content.
On the 30th, Professor Seo spoke through social media (SNS), saying, "I had a long conversation over coffee with a foreign journalist residing in Korea." He introduced some articles, stating, "Numerous foreign media outlets from the US, UK, Japan, China, Singapore, and others have already published articles about this drug scandal."
The American entertainment media Hollywood Reporter reported, "'Parasite' star Lee Seon-gyun stepped down from his new project, the drama 'No Way Out,' due to a police investigation over drug use allegations." Another outlet, Variety, stated, "Lee Seon-gyun, the lead actor of the Oscar-winning 'Parasite,' is under police investigation for drug use allegations."
Professor Seo pointed out, "This incident has left a significant stain even on 'Parasite,' a work that became a source of pride worldwide and will be remembered in the history of Korean cinema." He added, "The influence of K-content will grow even more in the future," emphasizing, "It is essential to recognize the lesson that the basic morality of Hallyu stars must be firmly supported."
The Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency summoned Lee Seon-gyun on the 28th for investigation on charges related to marijuana and psychotropic substances under the Narcotics Control Act. After seizing one of Lee's mobile phones, the police are currently checking call records. They are also analyzing a vehicle registered under Lee's name to verify if there is any suspicion of drug possession.
The police plan to confirm whether Lee has used drugs through urgent and detailed tests on his urine and hair samples. They intend to schedule another session soon to conduct a full-scale investigation of Lee.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency has identified a total of 10 individuals, including Lee and G-Dragon, as suspects in the drug investigation. The police also plan to summon G-Dragon, a singer formerly of the group Big Bang, for questioning soon. G-Dragon is suspected of drug offenses under the Narcotics Control Act.
