Kang Ji-woong, a public official working in Yeoja-dong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, discovered a resident in their 60s collapsed in the government office parking lot and saved their life by performing quick emergency treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

View original imageOn the 24th, Officer Kang found resident A, in their 60s, suddenly collapsed in the government office parking lot. At the time, several residents who had visited for rabies vaccination were nearby, but they were confused by the sudden situation and unable to take any action.
Officer Kang immediately ran over, confirmed that A was unconscious, and asked nearby residents to call 119 emergency services. He then performed CPR, which he had learned through Changwon City's civil defense training, while waiting for the 119 paramedics to arrive.
Staff members from the local administrative welfare center office who were present also joined in, helping to stimulate A’s limbs to aid in regaining consciousness. After performing CPR for more than five minutes, the 119 paramedics arrived. A was promptly transported to a nearby large hospital.

Officer Kang said, “I was very startled by the sudden situation, but thanks to the training I received in CPR, I was able to provide immediate emergency care. What happened today is simply the natural duty of a public official,” he said modestly.
