Lee Sun-kyun and G-Dragon Drug Allegations... Concerns Over "Possibility of Copycat Crimes"
News covering drug allegations involving influential celebrities such as actor Lee Seon-gyun and singer G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong) have been dominating the media, raising concerns about 'copycat crimes.'
On the 27th, drug specialist lawyer Ahn Ji-sung appeared on YTN's 'News Rider' and expressed concern, saying, "In the case of celebrities, their significant influence on the public increases the likelihood of copycat crimes."
Earlier, the police announced that they had booked and were investigating actor Lee and singer Kwon on suspicion of drug use, causing a significant stir. He pointed out that such drug-related reports about celebrities could stimulate the curiosity and imitation tendencies of ordinary people.
Lawyer Ahn said, "In fact, when I consult on drug cases, many clients have admitted that they first encountered drugs out of curiosity after seeing drug-related news about celebrities," adding, "Most people first come into contact with drugs out of curiosity, and when that curiosity meets this kind of imitation psychology, it becomes amplified."
He continued, "'If that person is doing it, why can't I?' is the kind of mentality that leads people to take the first wrong step into drug use," and added, "In my opinion, it would be important to establish reporting guidelines for celebrity drug cases, including sharing information about the dangers of drug addiction and drug prevention."
In Kwon's case, he denied the allegations through his lawyer on the same day, stating, "I have not used drugs." Lawyer Ahn said, "In drug use crimes, it is often insufficient to prove guilt based solely on statements," adding, "Therefore, if drugs are used in any way, traces remain in the body, and those traces become the most important and direct evidence."
The most representative evidence includes hair and urine samples. He explained, "Urine can actually detect drugs for up to two weeks," adding, "Since this detection period is relatively short, prompt seizure and search are necessary. Hair samples can reveal results for up to one year, but since hair is an external part of the body, it can only serve as indirect evidence."

The police have imposed a travel ban on Lee and Kwon. According to Lawyer Ahn, this is to prevent the possibility of flight. He explained, "Drug offenders often have a high risk of fleeing. Especially celebrities frequently travel abroad for overseas filming or attending fashion shows, which could be used as an excuse to escape," adding, "It appears that this measure is being considered to prevent such actions in advance."
