Chairman Jeong Tae-ok Former Lawmaker Appointed
The ‘Daegu City Local Era Committee’ has been launched to prevent the concentration in the metropolitan area and regional extinction by focusing on local regions, and to achieve balanced regional development and local autonomy decentralization.
On the 26th, Daegu City held the launch ceremony of the ‘Daegu City Local Era Committee,’ which will lead the local era originating from Daegu, in the large conference room on the 3rd floor of the Sangyeok Government Building.

The Daegu City Local Era Committee will serve as a control tower for regional policies aimed at achieving balanced regional development and local autonomy decentralization in response to the concentration phenomenon in the metropolitan area, working closely with the Presidential Local Era Committee.
Since the government integrated the National Balanced Development Committee and the Local Autonomy Decentralization Committee in July to launch the Local Era Committee and declared a local era where all regions of the Republic of Korea prosper, emphasizing the realization of a local era led by regions and balanced regional development, the role of the Daegu Metropolitan City Local Era Committee has become even more important.
The Daegu City Local Era Committee will play a central role in comprehensively reviewing policies related to regional balanced development and local autonomy decentralization led by Daegu City, including the five-year local era plans, super-regional development plans, and the application and designation of the government’s four key special zones (Opportunity Development Zone, Education Freedom Zone, Urban Convergence Zone, and Cultural Zone), which are core to the government’s local era policy.
Additionally, by maintaining close communication with the Presidential Local Era Committee, it is expected to play a key role in opening a local era led by regions by actively promoting necessary policies for regional development and ensuring their reflection in government policies.
The Daegu City Local Era Committee is composed of 20 members, including 19 experts from various fields such as politics, economy, law, medical, youth, universities, and research institutes specializing in decentralization and balanced development, and one ex officio member. The committee is chaired by Jeong Tae-ok, Dean of the Graduate School of Data Science at Kyungpook National University, with a term of two years.
Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo attended the launch ceremony of the Daegu City Local Era Committee, presenting appointment letters to the first-term members and encouraging them.
