CJ Feed & Care Opens 'Meat Master', a Specialty Butcher Shop, in Indonesia
First Store in Bekasi Area Near Jakarta
Expanding Value Chain from Feed to Livestock to Meat Processing for Vertical Integration
CJ CheilJedang's feed and livestock independent subsidiary, CJ Feed & Care, is accelerating its efforts to penetrate the Indonesian market.
On the 25th, CJ Feed & Care announced that it has opened its first specialized meat brand store, 'Meat Master,' in a shopping complex located in the Bekasi area of Indonesia.
Meat Master is a global meat brand applying CJ Feed & Care's differentiated feed and livestock technologies. The Meat Master store operates as a butcher shop offering various cuts of chicken in refrigerated and frozen states. Considering the growing interest in Korean cuisine and culture in Indonesia, CJ CheilJedang's K-food products such as Bibigo, Baeksul, and Hetbahn are also sold together.
CJ Feed & Care currently owns six feed factories across Indonesia and operates about 900 chicken farms. Through the 'Meat Master' store, the company plans to expand its value chain from 'feed → livestock → meat processing.' They intend to expand stores to central and western Jakarta areas. Last year, they also established a meat processing plant in Vietnam and opened two 'Meat Master' stores there.
The location of this store was strategically chosen. The Bekasi area is about an hour away from the capital Jakarta, close to residential centers, and has a developed commercial district including restaurants and hotels. By shortening delivery distances compared to before, it can strengthen its role as an innovative B2B (business-to-business) store. Moreover, by expanding the channel to B2C (business-to-consumer), consumers can conveniently purchase fresh chicken cuts, and the company can collect various data such as local purchasing patterns.
In Indonesia, meat sales have mainly been conducted through traditional markets, but with the expansion of cold chain systems, changes are occurring in the meat distribution market. Purchases are increasingly centered on supermarkets, and demand for refrigerated/frozen meat and processed foods is rising.
