Collin Morikawa (USA) has claimed a victory after a long hiatus. On the 22nd, at the Zozo Championship held at Narashino Country Club in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, the PGA Tour saw Morikawa secure a dominant 6-stroke win. This marks his 6th career win, coming 2 years and 3 months after his major victory at The Open in July 2021. Including his win at the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) season finale, the Tour Championship in November 2021, this is his first victory in 700 days.

Morikawa showcased exceptional skills at the Zozo Championship. He boasted a maximum drive distance of 379 yards (tied for 4th), a greens in regulation rate of 73.61% (tied for 3rd), and an impressive 1.60 putts per hole (2nd). Let’s take a look at the new equipment that led to Morikawa’s resurgence.

Morikawa uses a TaylorMade SIM driver with 8 degrees of loft, equipped with a Mitsubishi Diamana D+ Limited 60 TX shaft. His woods include a TaylorMade SIM Rocket 3 wood (#3, 14 degrees) and a TaylorMade Stealth 2 wood (#5, 18 degrees). The core of Morikawa’s club setup lies in his irons, which consist of a TaylorMade P series combo set: P770 (#4), P7MC (#5-6), and P730 (#7-PW).

His wedges are TaylorMade MG4 models, carrying three in his bag with lofts of 50, 56, and 60 degrees. The putter he uses is the TaylorMade TP Soto, a classic blade-style putter characterized by its rounded edges. During this recent win, Morikawa played with TaylorMade TP5X golf balls, having primarily used TP5 balls previously. Whether he will continue with this new line remains to be seen.
