LH Confirms Two More Apartments with 'Rebar Omission'... Reinforcement Construction Planned
Additional rebar omissions have been discovered at two apartment complexes commissioned by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). This is the result of further investigations into 11 complexes that were previously missed during the comprehensive survey of flat slab apartments. With this, the total number of LH complexes with rebar omissions has increased to 23.
On the 23rd, LH announced that it conducted an emergency safety inspection through a government-certified safety diagnosis agency on 11 self-managed complexes, confirming rebar omissions at two complexes: ‘UiwangChopyeongA3’ in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi Province, and ‘HwaseongBibongA3’ in Hwaseong-si, and will proceed with reinforcement work.

The reinforcement method is currently under review, and the reinforcement work is expected to be completed around November. However, since move-in is scheduled for this month, confusion during move-in is inevitable.
The HwaseongBibongA complex, with 988 households, is still under construction. Due to errors in structural calculations and drawing notations during the design phase, rebar was omitted in 28 out of 921 columns. Move-in is scheduled for June 2025, and LH plans to complete the reinforcement work by next month.
Earlier, following the underground parking lot collapse accident at an apartment complex in Geomdan New Town, Incheon, in April, LH launched a nationwide comprehensive survey of flat slab structure apartment complexes. In July, the safety diagnosis results for 91 complexes with flat slab structures revealed rebar omissions in 15 complexes.
However, it was later revealed that 11 complexes with flat slab structures were omitted from the safety inspection targets, causing controversy.
To alleviate residents’ concerns, LH plans to conduct detailed safety inspections after reinforcement work on the apartments with rebar omissions. Among the 20 complexes where rebar omissions were previously confirmed, reinforcement work is expected to be completed in 19 complexes by the end of this month.
The reinforcement work applies reinforcement methods verified by the Korea Concrete Institute, and detailed quality inspections of the construction process are also conducted through safety specialized agencies. After the reinforcement work is completed, a detailed safety inspection of the entire underground parking structure will be commissioned to a safety diagnosis specialist company designated by the residents to finally confirm structural safety.
