Suncheon Garden Expo, Weekend Visitors Surpass 9 Million in Autumn

Chairman Nogwan-gyu Thanks the Public for Loving the Garden Expo

The number of visitors to the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo has surpassed 9 million.

On October 7th, the target of 8 million visitors was achieved, and in just 15 days, an additional 1 million visitors were attracted.

According to the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo Organizing Committee, on the 22nd, the committee held a celebration event for the 9 millionth visitor at the National Garden Lake Garden Naruteo.

The event was attended by Chairman Noh Gwan-gyu (Mayor of Suncheon), Jeong Byeong-hoe, Chairperson of the Suncheon City Council, and visitors to the expo.

The lucky 9 millionth visitor was the family of Bang Gyeong-hwa, who entered through the South Gate around 10:33 AM.

Mr. Bang, currently residing in Dong-gu, Daegu, visited the garden expo with his husband and both sets of parents on a family trip.

At the celebration held around 11:30 AM, Mr. and Mrs. Bang said, "We visited during our dating period 2-3 years ago, but this is our first time visiting during the expo. We are happy and grateful to be selected as the 9 millionth visitors to such a wonderful garden."

Chairman Noh Gwan-gyu (Mayor of Suncheon) and Chairperson Jeong Byeong-hoe presented the Bang family with 1 million won worth of Suncheon Love Gift Certificates and a stay voucher at Shillange.

The Suncheon Love Gift Certificates were sponsored by Lee Sin-geun, the sponsor chairman of the 2023 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo.

Chairman Noh Gwan-gyu (Mayor of Suncheon) said, "We are making new history for South Korea. Even if we forced people to come, 9 million visitors could not be reached; it is as if the entire population of Seoul has visited.

We thank all the citizens who have loved the Garden Expo, and today, especially guests from Gwangju and Daegu, representing Yeonghonam families, have become the 9 millionth visitors. Congratulations."

Chairperson Jeong Byeong-hoe also encouraged, "It is an honor to share this day of creating a new legend, and congratulations to the family. I sincerely thank Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu, who has written a new milestone in Suncheon’s history, and all our public officials for their hard work."

The 2023 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo opened on April 1st and is continuing its long 214-day journey until October 31st.

Although the closing is just over 10 days away, the number of visitors continues to increase, eager to see the National Garden filled with tens of millions of chrysanthemums, the urban landscape garden where cosmos waves in the autumn breeze, and the Suncheon Bay Wetland where silver reeds and the winter guest, the black-faced spoonbill, overwinter.
