Professor Edward Witten from the US Awarded the Lee Whi-so Prize
Edward Witten, a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton, USA, has been selected as the recipient of this year's Lee Whi-so Award.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics announced on the 22nd that Professor Witten was chosen for proposing a research direction in string theory that can resolve the contradiction between gravity and quantum theory, one of the greatest challenges in theoretical physics.
Taking this award as an opportunity, Professor Witten will visit the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, for three days starting from the 23rd to give special lectures to researchers in the field of physics, and on the 26th, he will deliver a keynote speech at the Korean Physical Society Fall Conference held at the Changwon Convention Center (CECO) in Changwon, Gyeongnam.

The Lee Whi-so Award is the only academic award in Korea named after the late Dr. Lee Whi-so, who made groundbreaking contributions to the development of theoretical physics.
