Creation of 'Banjjak Garden,' the Village Gardener in Haebangchon, Yongsan-gu
Huam-dong Saenara Children's Park Theme Garden Created... Haebangchon Village Gardeners Design It Themselves
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) held a 'Pop-up Garden Creation Event with Haebangchon Village Gardeners' on the 20th at Saenara Children's Park in Huam-dong.
The Haebangchon Village Gardeners is a group formed by residents of Yongsan 2-ga-dong and Huam-dong, managing 10 gardens created in Haebangchon during the 2019 Seoul Garden Expo.
At one corner of the flower bed in Saenara Children's Park, the Haebangchon Village Gardeners personally designed and arranged a themed garden.
The newly created pop-up garden was completed by planting a total of 128 plants of 16 species, including 30 Heuchera, 12 Cosmos, 12 Hyangdeunggol, and 10 Aster ageratoides.
Kim Hae-ja of the Haebangchon Village Gardeners said, "It is rewarding to see residents taking a moment to rest in a garden created in a place they usually just pass by," adding, "It is fulfilling to bring vitality to the neighborhood."
About 20 children from Huam Daycare also participated. Through activities such as touching soil and planting flower seedlings, they experienced tactile play and opportunities to connect with nature.
They also made flowerpots by bringing unused cups or recycled materials. This upcycling practice naturally helped spread eco-friendly habits.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "The Haebangchon Village Gardeners have greatly contributed to improving the local environment," and added, "We will continue to work hard to manage parks and gardens so that residents can comfortably rest nearby."
