The First 'Muan Mudflat Octopus Festival' Held in Muan-eup Urban Area, Muan-gun
"I Will Widely Promote the Excellence of Muan Nakji, Known as the Ginseng of Mudflats"
Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) will hold the ‘2023 Muan Mudflat Octopus Festival’ for two days from the 27th to the 28th at the Muan-eup Mudflat Octopus Street and the Central Road area.
According to the county on the 20th, this Muan Mudflat Octopus Festival is the first festival to be held in the Muan-eup downtown area, offering a variety of sights and activities.
The main stage program on the 27th includes a community show featuring octopus catching and octopus auctions, a creative Korean traditional music musical, the proclamation ceremony of ‘Clean Mudflat Octopus First-Class Town Muan-gun,’ and a residents’ song contest. A total of 11 teams of residents will participate in the song contest, showcasing their honed singing skills.
On the second day, there will be a home-cooked octopus teacher talk show, community show octopus catching and octopus auctions, a performance by the Muan Dream Orchestra, and the 2023 Muan Mudflat Octopus Festival celebration performance.
The celebration performance will feature Hong Kyung-min, Kim Hyun-jung, Yeohaeng Sketch, Marronnier, as well as Nongsuro, the promotional ambassador of Muan-gun, promising to provide visitors with a sensory and emotional experience.
In the Central Road area, various busking performances such as Korean traditional music, magic shows, and folk songs will be held, along with zones for promoting and selling agricultural and marine products, seafood tasting corners, and rest areas for tourists, ensuring visitors can enjoy comfortably with thorough preparations.
Additionally, in the Mudflat Octopus Street area, there will be the Muan Tourism Photo Exhibition, an exhibition zone created as part of the rural central area revitalization project by the Urban Regeneration Residents’ Council, as well as various experience events such as Muan Buncheong pottery and natural dyeing experiences, and beauty care experiences by Chodang University, along with rest areas for tourists, making every effort to ensure visitors can enjoy the festival comfortably anywhere.
During the festival, to eradicate price gouging on food, the county held a meeting with octopus street merchants to promote food price stabilization, price display systems, and origin labeling, seeking cooperation so that users can enjoy reasonable prices.
Governor Kim San said, “I hope this will be an opportunity to widely promote the excellence of Muan octopus, known as the ginseng of the mudflats for its energy restoration, fatigue recovery, and excellent anticancer effects,” and added, “I hope it will increase fishermen’s income and revitalize local businesses.”
A county official stated, “To ensure perfect prevention of safety accidents, we will do our best to ensure visitor safety with the cooperation of the local police station, fire station, and related agencies.”
