On the 19th, LG Chem held the award ceremony for the '3rd LG Chem-Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers Petrochemical Olympiad' at the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, and on the 20th announced that the grand prize was awarded to the Process Design Committee team consisting of Jin Heung-seok, Yang Seon-mo, and Jeong Gi-yeol from Kwangwoon University.
The grand prize team won the honor by comparing and analyzing a batch reactor that can produce a large amount at once like a rice cooker and a continuous reactor that produces continuously like extruding garaetteok, proposing the optimal reactor to secure the best productivity of CNT (carbon nanotubes), a next-generation new material attracting attention.
The judging panel said, "We highly evaluated the point that design variables for each reactor were analyzed in various ways and logically to find the optimal design plan," and added, "It will be a useful approach to create a competitive production process in actual field sites."
Jin Heung-seok, who received the grand prize, said, "It is meaningful to be evaluated as helpful in the actual industrial field, and it gave me confidence in my career goal in petrochemicals."
A total of 365 teams composed of university students majoring in chemical engineering applied for this contest, and through fierce competition, a total of seven teams that proposed ideas to improve productivity and sustainability such as the use of bio raw materials were awarded.
LG Chem provides various benefits such as scholarships for each winning team, internship programs convertible to full-time positions, and exemption from document screening when applying for employment.
No Guk-rae, head of LG Chem's Petrochemical Business Division, said, "Through the Olympiad, we were able to confirm the sustainability of the petrochemical industry," and added, "We will spare no support to discover and nurture university talents who will lead the future petrochemical industry."
