Gyeonggi-do Proposes Government Legislation to Mandate Signboard Removal Upon Business Closure
Gyeonggi Province has proposed to the government the enactment of a law mandating the removal of signboards following business closures.
On the 19th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it recently recommended to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to actively manage abandoned store signboards after business closures by establishing regulations for the cancellation of outdoor advertising display permits and notifications.
In the proposal, Gyeonggi Province pointed out that although there are concerns about urban aesthetics deterioration and safety accidents due to closed self-employed business owners not removing signboards for reasons such as cost, the current Outdoor Advertising Act only includes regulations on permits, notifications, and changes thereof, but lacks clear provisions to confirm signboard removal after business closure.
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province explained that it proposed to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety the establishment of regulations for the cancellation of outdoor advertising display permits and notifications to mandate signboard removal after business closure.
