Korean National Police University Institute of Security Policy, Holds 'Security Science and Technology Briefing for Creators'
The Police University Institute of Security Policy held a 'Security Science and Technology Briefing for Creators' on the 18th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
This briefing was organized by the Police University Institute of Security Policy as a side event of the 5th International Security Industry Expo to assist writers who want to enhance the artistic quality and commercial success of their works through thorough verification of police-related details but face difficulties in obtaining police-related consultation and coverage, resulting in works lacking realism.
The briefing was attended by webtoon, web novel, and drama writers as well as the general public, providing an opportunity to understand security science and technology and police organizations. Choi Jong-sang, head of the Institute of Security Policy, said in his opening remarks, "We hope this helps increase creators' understanding of the police and security science and technology, reflect this in their works, improve the quality of their creations, and enhance the satisfaction of readers and viewers."
In the first part of the briefing, Kwon Tae-hyung, a researcher at the Institute of Security Policy, explained the police ranks, positions, organizational structure, duties of each department, regulations on police agency symbols (CI), and the regulations regarding police characters Podori and Posuni under the theme 'Understanding the Police.'
Kim Gyu-sam, the author of the popular Naver webtoon 'Vigilante,' which is being adapted into a drama scheduled to be released on Disney Plus next month, shared his experience on 'How to Enhance the Realism of Creative Works.' Following this, Go Namu, CEO of Fact Story and original author of the drama 'Those Who Read the Minds of Evil,' explained techniques from police-related research for creative works to dramatization under the theme 'How Facts Become Drama,' and guided crime analysis through a discussion with Go Jun-chae, a police inspector at the Institute of Security Policy and the first crime psychology analyst at the National Police Agency. Kim Jung-geun, president of the Police Academy, introduced cases of errors in the verification of the criminal justice system in dramas and explained key criminal justice terms and procedures under the theme 'Understanding the Criminal Justice System.'
The second part of the briefing continued with explanations by National Police Agency staff on the current status of police security science and technology.
Lee Jae-hoon, head of the Safety Technology Division at the Science and Technology Development Department of the National Police Agency, explained the status and major achievements of the National Police Agency's national research and development projects, and Lee Jun-haeng, head of the Equipment Policy Division at the Equipment Operations Department, introduced advanced equipment operated by the police. Byun Kyu-taek, head of the Scientific Investigation Techniques Division at the Scientific Investigation Department, introduced advanced scientific investigation equipment and techniques used by the police, and Jang Kwang-ho, head of the Smart Security Intelligence Center at the Institute of Security Policy, presented 'How Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Are Utilized in the Police.' Finally, Jeong Kyung-mo, analyst at the Digital Evidence Acquisition Division of the Digital Forensic Center of the National Police Agency, explained the understanding of digital evidence and key terms under the theme 'Understanding Digital Evidence Seizure and Search.'
A webtoon author who attended the briefing said, "Today's briefing was very helpful in preparing a work based on the police," and added, "I hope the police continue to hold such briefings in the future."
