'365 Days 24 Hours' Disaster Safety Situation Room Opened... 24-Hour Dedicated Staff Conduct Real-Time Monitoring
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is rapidly operating an independent smart safety system developed and established to ensure a safe walking environment and prevent disasters such as crowd congestion accidents.
The district stated that since it has tourist attractions representing Korea, such as the Hongdae Red Road, as well as large parks and rivers frequently visited by citizens, safety is the top priority in district administration.
The crowd congestion analysis system, developed by Mapo-gu by incorporating its own idea of utilizing AI to prevent crowd congestion safety accidents and established in the first half of this year, is a smart system that collects and analyzes real-time crowd density information on-site through local CCTV using an AI system, classifying the density into normal, caution, and danger levels, and linking it to the Mapo-gu Disaster Safety Situation Room.
The district began full-scale operation after installing the crowd congestion analysis system at three locations on the Hongdae Red Road, which is always crowded with domestic and foreign tourists, in June, and announced that it has expanded the operation to six locations as of August.
Additionally, as a countermeasure against flooding accidents in underground passages caused by localized heavy rain, Mapo-gu established and is operating the first AI-based flood prevention blocking system among city autonomous districts in September at the World Cup Stream (Bulgwang Stream) underground passage.
The AI blocking system is a smart system that automatically controls access to the underground passage by detecting flooding status through water level gauges installed along the riverside and in the underground passage, and collecting and analyzing video information with infrared cameras.
Since the blocking system operates automatically according to the water level stage of the underground passage rather than being manually controlled by a person assessing the situation, it is expected to enable prompt and accurate measures during heavy rain.
In particular, both Mapo-gu’s AI crowd congestion analysis system and the underground passage flood prevention AI system immediately display visual information on risk levels such as caution and danger through separate electronic display boards, and also provide voice alerts, making them highly effective for young generations who frequently use smartphones, as well as for the elderly and visually impaired.
Moreover, the collected data is designed to perform deep learning autonomously, allowing the acquisition of unique data specialized for the respective area, which can be used to predict future occurrences of crowd congestion and flooding accidents.
This AI-collected and analyzed information is monitored 24 hours a day at the ‘Mapo-gu Disaster Safety Situation Room.’
The Disaster Safety Situation Room, opened by Mapo-gu in September, is a disaster prevention facility equipped with the latest facilities such as a video conference room, multi-vision room, and CCTV control room, where dedicated personnel monitor incidents, accidents, and natural disasters in real time 24/7 through the ‘Smart City Safety Network’ connected to local CCTV and disaster risk facility CCTV networks.
In particular, the Smart City Safety Network immediately displays CCTV footage of locations where 119 and 112 emergency calls have been received, enabling instant situation analysis and response from the situation room.
The district expects that with the opening of the Disaster Safety Situation Room, disaster situation management and reporting systems will be unified, making the crisis response system more specialized and streamlined.
