CBS Interview Program Appearance and Remarks
U.S. President Joe Biden called Israel's plan to occupy the Gaza Strip, where it is conducting retaliatory operations against Palestinian armed factions, "it'd be a big mistake."
In a full interview released on the 15th (local time) on CBS's in-depth program "60 Minutes," President Biden was asked whether he would support Israel's occupation of the Gaza Strip at this point in the conflict that began with Hamas's surprise attack on the 7th. He responded with the statement above.
Regarding Hamas, President Biden said it "must be completely eliminated," expressing support for Israel's stance on its total dismantlement. He added, "Look at what is happening in the Gaza Strip. In my view, Hamas and its extremist elements do not represent the Palestinian people. I think it would be a mistake if Israel occupies it."
